Mixed Reactions Toward Events Center Name

August 2, 2012, 5:15 PM by Hailey Higgins

Mixed Reactions Toward Events Center Name
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

People in Sioux Falls have mixed reaction towards the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center announcement Thursday.

"My first reaction is that I am not surprised. I kind of suspected that might be it," Deb Wallenberg said.

The name doesn't come as a shock to most people downtown but reactions are fairly mixed for the official name to the city's new events center.

“We like it,” John Hopkins said.

"It's a pretty long name but I understand where they got it from," Alissa Barse said.

Some people say they are turned off by what they call an over-saturation of the Sanford name within the area.

"It kind of seems like this is Sioux Falls, also known as Sanford Town. It's definitely a Sanford place," Ben Taylor said.

Like it or not, KELOLAND News spoke with many people who say it doesn't matter what the events center is called because they won't be using the official name.

"It is definitely a mouth full. I would probably never call it that. I would probably call it the new events center," Taylor said.

"I kind of feel like I would call it the events center anyways, instead of the full name. But besides it being long, they are sponsors and are just getting their name out there," Barse said.

And whether people support with the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center name or not, most agree the multi-million dollar naming price tag is a promising investment.
