Mixed Feelings On Safety After Meth Bust

August 31, 2012, 4:50 PM by David Brown

Mixed Feelings On Safety After Meth Bust
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

A Sioux Falls meth bust has one man in jail and more arrests are possible.

Twenty-three-year-old Chad Anderson of Sioux Falls has been charged with multiple counts, including possession and manufacturing meth. Police raided the home he was staying in around 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon. And neighbors in that area have mixed feelings about their safety.

The home is located in the 900 block of South Cleveland Avenue on the east side of Sioux Falls. Authorities say the meth was cooked using what's known as the one pot method.  Some neighbors we spoke with aren't concerned, but others are even threatening to move.

"I'm a little worried now if it's this close," Sioux Falls resident Susan Szurek said.

From the outside, you would think the house is unassuming. But Thursday afternoon, authorities discovered someone was making a lot of meth inside.

"Thirty-three pots seized out of that search warrant, that's pretty significant," Sgt. John Duprey of the Sioux Falls Police Department said. "A pretty significant operation, a lot of chemicals were seized as well."

"Right across the street, that's a lot to handle," Szurek said.

Szurek lives directly across from the house that was raided. She takes care of two kids and two grandkids and fears for their safety. In fact, she's thinking of moving.

"That's pretty scary," Szurek said. "Anything could've happened. It could've caught on fire or something."

"With the whole meth thing, the explosions, the fires and stuff like that and just the type of people, but other than that, no concerns," Sioux Falls resident Becky Wyant said.

Wyant lives right next door to Szurek, but says the neighborhood is still a safe place to live.

"I kind of feel this is just an isolated thing that's happened in our neighborhood," Wyant said. "Ordinarily, it's been a really good neighborhood here, a lot of kids running around."

"Once it happens right across the street from you, you're kind of shaken a little bit, but after that, you have your guard up a lot," Sioux Falls resident Jordan Everdine said.

Everdine also lives on South Cleveland Avenue and believes it's just one more thing to keep an eye on.

"I'm fine, I'd live here forever if I could," Wyant said.

Anderson's currently being held on $20,000 bond. Sioux Falls police mentioned this is an ongoing investigation and that more arrests could be coming in the future.
