Voters in Mitchell have approved an ordinance allowing wine service on downtown sidewalks.
Tuesday's vote came a year after the City Council approved the ordinance to help businesses boost their bottom lines. It was later referred to a public vote by opponents who worried about an expansion of alcohol sales.
Sixty percent of the 1,215 voters on Tuesday favored allowing downtown Mitchell businesses to sell wine outdoors, with certain restrictions.
