Mitchell Begins March Towards Title

November 19, 2012, 10:35 PM by Jim Madalinsky

Mitchell Begins March Towards Title
MITCHELL, SD -

The starting five for the Mitchell Kernels won't look much different this season.
The defending Class AA Champions bring back four of five starters from last years team, and they are ready to get back to work.

"Don't leave any stone unturned and let's see if we can make everyone better," Mitchell Head Coach Wes Morgan said.

Much like a season ago, a pair of future Jackrabbits will lead the way for the Kernels. Not far removed from their first state title, Senior Kerri Young and Junior Macy Miller still have unfinished business.

"The experience just really helps knowing what it's like and so I think it will help us and everyone to get more confidence going into this year," Mitchell Senior Kerri Young said.

"We see each other really well on the floor or when she's running the floor I can push it up to her and I know she's going to make it," Junior Macy Miller said.

With the road to a title not getting any easier in Class AA this season, Kernels head Coach Wes Morgan is counting on that kind of chemistry.

"My goal is to make them both better and improve them as we go. Teams are going to try to do different things against us and getting them ready for that and that's part of our job is getting them ready," Morgan said.

And after spending a few years as the underdogs, the Kernels are ready to make the adjustment from hunter...to hunted.

"Coach tells us everyday that we're the target now and we have that big "X" on our back so we just have to come to practice everyday and get better," Young said.
