While we've experienced some heat the past couple of weeks, most of us haven't seen the mercury climb into the 90's.
So far, Pierre's highest temperature this year is 87 which occurred on May 29. Sioux Falls highest temp is 88, that happened on May 30. Since that day, Sioux Falls has received more than six inches of rain. All of that moisture in the ground might be keeping some of the heat away, as it's harder to warm wet ground compared to dry ground.
Since 1990, Sioux Falls typically sees its first 90 degree day around June 2. The earliest happened in 2009 when Sioux Falls hit 91 on April 23, the latest ninety happened in 1998 when the temp finally hit 91 on July 13.
As for this year, it looks like 90 degree heat will continue to stay away from KELOLAND. Temps will remain in the 70s and 80s with good chances for rain over the next several days. On average, Sioux falls gets two to three days with ninety degree heat in June.
