Minnehaha County Getting $23M Grain Terminal
October 26, 2011, 11:54 AM
LYONS, SD -
Construction is under way on a "shuttle train" grain-loading terminal west of Lyons.
Central Farmers Cooperative CEO Steve Domm says it will be the first terminal in Minnehaha County capable of handling the trains with 110-120 railcars. The $23 million Fremar LLC facility is a joint venture of the co-op and Archers Daniel Midland.
The terminal is to be finished by next September, and Domm says that it's contracting with farmers for 2012 grain deliveries. The facility will have 10 full-time employees working with wheat, corn and soybeans.
The terminal will have four 120-foot-tall storage silos. Work is to begin on those in late November or early December.
