Minnehaha Commissioners Reverse Pay Cut

SIOUX FALLS, SD -
Minnehaha County employees thought they were going to have to tough out a five percent pay cut this year to balance the county's budget.
But at Tuesday morning's commission meeting, a presentation from the auditor revealed the county has now saved enough money in various ways to reverse the cut.
In a four to one vote, commissioners decided to give the money back to employees effective next month. However, the employees will not receive back pay.
One employees group that had to take a pay cut was the deputy's union. They challenged the cut and an administrative judge ruled on their side, making them immune to the cut because of their contract.
They will no longer have to take the pay cut. However, commissioners decided to still appeal that judge's decision in fear it could set a precedent, banning them from all pay cuts which could be needed to balance a budget.
