MidAmerican Energy Looks To Raise Rates

MidAmerican Energy Looks To Raise Rates

MidAmerican Energy is looking to raise rates.

The company has filed paperwork with the PUC, and is waiting to hear back on the proposed 3-percent increase.

For customers in South Dakota, the increase would be about a dollar more a month.

MidAmerican says it's held costs steady for a decade, but with more customers in the state, the company needs to make a change.

"During those ten years, the consumer price index increased 26-percent. We're asking for 3.5-percent rate increase. So while we know nobody likes rate increases or paying more, we've held it to a very modest level," Ruth Comer, with MidAmerican said.

The total increase for MidAmerican will be $2.9 million.
