Meyer In Hospice Care
Don Meyer | August 2012

ABERDEEN, SD -

Former NSU coach Don Meyer is in hospice care.

The former men’s basketball coach was in Avera St. Luke’s Hospital three days with a feeding tube before returning home under hospice care, Brenda Dryer of Avera said.

"Coach Meyer's health has been drastically declining over the past several months,” Meyer’s family said in a written statement.

Doctors diagnosed Meyer with cancer in 2008 after a serious car crash in Faulk County. His family says Meyer is at peace and getting exceptional care.

“As a family, we are so proud of his perseverance, faith, and strength,” family members said.

Dreyer says family members thank people for their prayers, love and support and appreciate their privacy during this time.

If you have a message or story for Meyer, you can share those on his Facebook page or Twitter @CoachDonMeyer. Family members will read them to Meyer.

Meyer retired from coaching in 2010 with 923 career wins.
