Arrests related to possession and manufacturing of meth are happening across the state and some of the greatest numbers might surprise you.
Naturally, arrest numbers are greatest where the most people live. For example, 2013's latest numbers show 149 arrests in the Sioux Falls area with 144 arrests made in Rapid City and the surrounding Pennington County. Both those numbers are on pace to surpass the number of arrests in all of 2012.
However, the greatest increase in meth cases is happening in northeast South Dakota. Authorities in Brown County have already made 14 meth related arrests, up from nine in all of last year.
Not too far away, Roberts County authorities have made eight arrests related to meth. That's four times the number of arrests last year.
Back in Minnehaha County, the amount of meth taken off the streets is what stands out the most. In all of 2012, law enforcement seized 1,899 grams of meth. In the first four months of this year, the number ballooned to 7,685 grams. That's already four times the amount found last year.
Meth arrests have also increased in the northern Black Hills. Authorities in Lawrence County have made eleven arrests already this year compared to just four last year.
