From a distance, the new Costco looks ready to go, and that's nearly true.
"Almost, almost. There's a lot of construction still going on. Paving should be done this week; that's big. We've got our signs going up over the fresh departments, over the optical, the pharmacy, tire center. So all those signs will be in place, counter tops. We'll be installing registers and computers to make them operational," Costco General Manage Bruce Miles said.
Inside, the store is buzzing. 28 tables are now in place and will soon hold clothes for men, women and children. That's not all that's moving in. The freight started to make its way into the store on Monday. Between now and the store's opening, they'll receive at least five semi-truck loads of materials each day.
"We've hired a ton of local help as well as the people we brought in to assist putting this place together and they're handling it nicely," Miles said.
Final touches will be in place prior to the grand opening on October 3. It's a date those who work here are eagerly awaiting, even if there's plenty of work and long hours before that happens.
"Yeah, it's not a problem though; that's what we do," Miles said.
And with the new store in place, the 41st Street and Grange Avenue area of Sioux Falls appears forever changed.
Costco is currently selling memberships at a temporary office nearby on 41st Street. Next week that will move to the front of the store.
