Memorial To Fallen SD Officers To Be Dedicated

A memorial honoring two fallen Rapid City police officers will be dedicated this weekend.
The memorial was built at the site of the Aug. 2 shootout that wounded Officers J. Ryan McCandless, Nick Armstrong and Tim Doyle.
McCandless and Armstrong died of their injuries, while Doyle has recovered and returned to duty. The suspect in the shooting, Daniel Tiger, was shot by officers and died the next day.
City Alderman John Roberts says McCandless and Armstrong made the ultimate sacrifice and deserve to be remembered.
The privately funded 4-foot-high granite monument that is shaped roughly like an officer's badge cost about $10,000. The dedication ceremony is at 2 p.m. Sunday. Roberts says he expects a large crowd.
