Golf courses aren't opened up for typical tee times yet, but new fitness centers in the facilities have been seeing lots of activity.
The mission of GreatLife is to combine golf, fitness and healthy lifestyles. This business is started to breathe new life into the city of Sioux Falls.
“Golf is a diminishing market and unless we do something to break the two major barriers for golf, cost and time, golf will be a dying sport,” Bakker Crossing General Manager Donn Hill said.
A single membership is $49.99. A couple is $ 59.99. And a family membership is $69.99. The memberships include unlimited access to gyms and golf courses across Sioux Falls and the surrounding area.
The gyms involved are Sioux Empire Fitness, Embe, Bakker Crossing, Willow Run and Lemke Fitness. The golf courses involved are Bakker Crossing, Willow Run, Rocky Run and Central Valley.
With the low cost for gym memberships and unlimited golf, GreatLife hopes to take this idea further than KELOLAND.
“We intend to take GreatLife across the state and across the nation. We plan to change the model for golf in this country,” Hill said.
This weekend, the Golf Expo will be at the Sioux Falls Convention Center and GreatLife is offering a membership special. This weekend only, the initiation fee is $25. It's typically $75 this time of year. Golfers will also get one month free if they sign up.
GreatLife is expected to make an announcement about another golf course getting involved. That announcement will be held at Bakker Crossing at 1:00 p.m.
