Meeting On Flood Potential In Brookings
March 16, 2011, 11:11 AM
BROOKINGS, SD -
Flooding is the topic of discussion for South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard as he takes part in a series of meetings across the state on Wednesday.
Daugaard and other local, state and federal officials already met with a group in Sioux Falls. The governor's main message was to prepare. He said while the threat against the levees in Sioux Falls has gone down, many other areas along the Big Sioux are in for record flooding. A look at the area from the air shows just how much snow is left on the ground to melt.
The governor says state and local governments are working together to get response plans in place, but he stressed it's up to individual home owners to take care of themselves and their neighbors now.
The group is stopping in Brookings for a couple of meetings at the Swiftel Center over the noon hour. Later in the day, they will travel to Watertown for a 4 p.m. meeting at the Redlin Art Center Amphitheatre.
