McGovern To Join Historic Figures At Cemetery
George McGovern

George McGovern will be buried during a private service at a historic cemetery in Washington, D.C.

The Senator will join his late wife Eleanor and his daughter Terry, both of whom are buried at Rock Creek Cemetery which is Washington's oldest cemetery dating back to 1719.

It's the final resting place of many political dignitaries, including Abraham Baldwin who was a signer of the US Constitution, Montgomery Blair who served as postmaster general in President Lincoln's cabinet, and Alice Roosevelt Longworth, the daughter of President Theodore Roosevelt.

Network newsman Tim Russert, who died in 2008, is also buried in the cemetery.

We'll look into other South Dakota connections to Rock Creek Cemetery, tonight on KELOLAND News.
