MBK: Yotes Fall In Denver

MBK: Yotes Fall In Denver
DENVER, CO -

Denver sophomore guard Brett Olson scored a career-high 30 points, teammate Jalen Love made a half-court shot at the first-half buzzer and the Pioneers committed five turnovers in a 75-67 win against South Dakota Saturday at Magness Arena.

Denver (12-11, 5-3 Summit) has won five of its last six and avenged a 59-54 loss to South Dakota back on Jan. 11. The Coyotes (9-14, 3-5) have lost their last five conference games after starting the year 3-0.

Olson made six of Denver’s 13 three-pointers and was 9 of 14 from the field. One of Olson’s three assists came after he stole the ball in the closing seconds of the first half and passed ahead to Love whose buzzer-beater gave the Pioneers a 38-26 halftime lead. The Coyotes were 10 of 20 from the field in the first half, but took 12 fewer shots.

Denver led by as many as 17 in the second half. The Coyotes got within six points following a three-pointer by Trey Norris with seven seconds left, but drew no closer.

Norris and Adam Thoseby scored 15 points each to lead South Dakota. Karim Rowson made all four shots he took and had 11 points and seven rebounds. Trevor Gruis, who had 19 points and 10 rebounds in the first meeting with Denver, had six points and seven boards Saturday.

Cam Griffin had 14 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double for the Pioneers. Marcus Byrd hit three treys off the bench and had 11 points. Denver was 13 of 31 from beyond the arc for 42 percent.

The Coyotes return to the court Thursday (Feb. 13) against Fort Wayne in Indiana.
