November 14, 2011, 9:57 PM

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - South Dakota State kept Minnesota on the ropes Monday night in Minneapolis, but turnovers and a second half Golden Gopher run cost the Jackrabbits in a 71-55 loss in front of 10,460 fans at Williams Arena.
Nate Wolters led the Jackrabbits with 20 points, adding six assists and five rebounds. Taévaunn Prince posted the first double-double of his career in the loss with a season and career-high 13 points and a season, career and team-high 10 rebounds. Chad White pitched in with 11 points to round out the Jackrabbits double figure scorers.
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to an even 1-1 on the season, while the host Gophers improve to 2-0.
Trevor Mbakwe led two Golden Gophers in double figures with 17 points and added 10 rebounds to complete the double-double. Ralph Sampson III added 10 points in the win, as Minnesota spread the scoring between 10 different players.
The first half seven of the game’s nine lead changes and a pair of ties, the final tie coming after a Jordan Dykstra three-pointer with 1:42 left in the half that tied the game at 28. The Gophers scored four quick points off of two Jackrabbit turnovers to go up 32-28 with 14 seconds left in the half. The Jacks pushed the ball down the floor and drew a foul with less than a second left, and Prince made both shots to send the Jacks to the locker room down 32-30.
The Jacks scored the first five points of the second half, and capitalized on the Gophers first turnover of the half to take a 35-32 lead. The Jacks went up by five at 44-39, with 14:36 left to play when Minnesota responded with an 18-1 run that put them up 57-45.
Wolters ended the run with a layup at the 8:16 mark, but the Jackrabbits could not recover.
SDSU forced 15 turnovers in the game and turned them into 10 points. Minnesota capitalized on 18 SDSU turnovers, turning them into 17 points. The Jackrabbits did win the rebounding battle 37-33, but got outrebounded 20-14 in the second half.
