MBK: Sargent Named Director Of Operations
BROOKINGS, SD -

South Dakota State head men’s basketball coach Scott Nagy announced the addition of former Jackrabbit standout Clint Sargent to his staff on Wednesday as the team’s director of operations.

“We are very excited to add Clint to our staff,” Nagy said. “It’s a great hire for us because he is so familiar with how we operate and what’s important to our program. I anticipate him developing into a great college coach.”

A two-time All-Summit League Second Team selection, and the Jackrabbits most prolific 3-point shooter, Sargent returns to Brookings after two seasons of playing professionally with USC Heidelberg in the German ProA League.

“I’m very thankful for the opportunity to join the staff here at South Dakota State, and I'm excited to work alongside Coach Nagy and the rest of the athletic department that did so much for me during my playing career” Sargent said. “It feels great being back in the Brookings community and I look forward to another great year of Jackrabbit basketball!”

A four-year letterwinner for the Jackrabbits, Sargent graduated from SDSU in 2011 with a degree in psychology and then signed with USC Heidelberg, where he played in 58 games over two seasons, averaging 12.6 points and 1.6 assists in 28.6 minutes per game. He also led the team in 3-point shooting in both years on the team, going 60-for-154, 39 percent, as a rookie in 2011-12, and then 89-for-198, 44.9 percent, in 2013-13.

A pre and postseason All-Summit League Second Team selection as a senior, Sargent started all 31 games in 2010-11, when he set the SDSU career 3-pointers made record with 252. He set the mark with a trio of triples in a win at Centenary on Feb. 5, breaking the mark of 235, held by former assistant coach Austin Hansen.

In addition to the career 3-point record, Sargent holds three of the top-10 single-season 3-point marks, making 83 in 2010-11 and 68 in both the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. He also sits tied for fourth all-time with seven 3-pointers in game, which his did against IUPUI on Feb. 10, 2011 at Frost Arena. He finished his career with 1,505 points, the sixth-best total in school history.

Before joining the Jackrabbits, the South Sioux City, Neb., native scored 1,079 points at Bishop Heelan High School, earning first-team all-conference, first-team all-district, first-team all-metro, first-team all-northwest Iowa and first-team all-state in basketball in both his junior and senior years and all-metro quarterback as a junior and senior.

Sargent and his wife, former Jackrabbit women’s basketball standout Jill Young, live in Brookings.
