Cameron McCaffrey was named the men’s basketball player of the week by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in a release on Monday morning. This is the second time this season that McCaffrey has earned a player of the week nod from the NSIC.
McCaffrey averaged 24.7 points on 46 percent shooting (24 of 52) and 90 percent (19 of 21) from the free throw line on the weekend. The Portland, Ore. Native also dished out 5.7 assists per contest.
Highlighting the senior’s spectacular week was a career-high 40 points in Augustana’s 85-78 win over the University of Mary on Friday night. McCaffrey tied a career-high with six three pointers against the Marauders to go along with a career-high seven assists.
McCaffrey also moved into eighth place on the all-time Augustana scoring list by passing Director of Athletics, Bill Gross. McCaffrey sits at 1,637 points for his career.
Earlier in the week, McCaffrey tallied 19 points and five assists in the loss at Wayne State. On Saturday, McCaffrey was held to 15 points but hit several key free throws for the Vikings down the stretch.
The Vikings take to the road looking to improve their 12-4 record, 8-4 in the NSIC, on the road beginning with Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m.
