While May first brought sunshine to western, central and parts of northeast KELOLAND, clouds remained thick for many of us near Interstate 29 and east. Even if you were lucky enough to see the sun, temperatures remained below average, which will continue as we go through May.
We start the month with average highs in the middle sixties and average lows near thirty. By the end of the month, we have average highs in the middle seventies and lows near fifty.
The average rain varies from near two and three quarters in Sisseton to nearly three and a half in Sioux Falls. These are numbers that we may exceed by the end of the month.
Be careful about planting flowers and gardens too soon. I wouldn't be surprised if we get some late season frost around the middle of the month. We'll also see if our April showers end up bringing May flowers.
