As we change the page of the calendar this weekend, we welcome in March. A month known for spring weather extremes from crippling snowstorms to severe weather, KELOLAND has experienced all in March. But the one thing I often hear is how the month is known for heavy snow.
The climate average for snow in Sioux Falls during March is eight point four inches, which is slightly more than December's average. The average snowfall for October through April is 44.8 inches.
Sioux Falls hasn't had above average snow in March since 2008 when the city measured fourteen and a half for the month. In fact, the past five March snows tally eight and a half inches, a tenth of an inch above the climate average. During that time, the snowiest March was the three point two inches that fell in 2009.
We'll start with the snow right away this March, as we have snow in the forecast on Saturday.
