Subzero cold and chilling winds have forced many schools in South Dakota to delay opening for a couple of hours.
We have more than 50 schools opening late on our KELOLAND Closeline. You can view the list online.
Although temperatures were bitter Thursday morning, our KELOLAND Weather Team says the mercury will slowly rise throughout the day and we'll even see some sunny skies. Highs across the state will range from near 30 in Rapid City to around 6 in both Sioux Falls and Aberdeen.
South Dakota isn't alone either. Many schools in Iowa and Nebraska are opening late because of the cold.
And the northeast will get hit once again Thursday night. Our meteorologists expect very strong winds to develop in this part of the state, creating blowing snow issues.
