A 21-year-old Rapid City man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for rape.
Circuit Judge Janine Kern says Isaiah Farrell choked and strangled his 26-year-old victim before hitting her in the face with a rock when she tried to cry out.
The victim's nose was broken in the March attack.
Court records show Farrell met the victim online and the attack occurred on their second meeting.
Farrell pleaded guilty to second-degree rape. Prosecutors dismissed aggravated assault charges.
Assistant state's attorney Ryan Ryder says that the maximum sentence of 50 years was appropriate given Farrell's criminal history.
Farrell was convicted of aggravated assault in 2009 and served 2 ½ years in prison.
