Man Sentenced For Shooting Neighbors

DEADWOOD, SD -
A Deadwood man convicted of shooting and injuring two of his neighbors will spend at least two decades in prison.
Forty-eight-year-old Terry Willis was found guilty but mentally ill late last month in the February 12 shooting of Terry Steinbach and his adult son, Monte. Terry Steinbach was shot in the wrist and his son in the abdomen.
Authorities said Willis claimed his wife and dogs had been harassed by his upstairs neighbors after a dispute over parking. He faced charges including attempted murder and aggravated assault.
Lawrence County State's Attorney John Fitzgerald said Willis was given several sentences on the various charges Tuesday. He said even if Willis is paroled at the earliest possible date, he still will spend 19 1/2 years behind bars.
