A 26-year-old Hot Springs man has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge in connection with the October disappearance of his mother.
A Fall River County grand jury indicted Matthew Tornquist on Thursday on the first-degree murder charge, an alternative count of second-degree murder and a single count of grand theft related to cash missing from Catherine Tornquist.
The indictment accuses Matthew Tornquist in the killing on or about Oct. 4. Catherine Tornquist was reported missing the first week in October. Her remains have not been found.
Prosecutor Matt Brown, the deputy states' attorney for Custer County, said Matthew Tornquist has been in federal custody in Rapid City on non-related charges since earlier this spring.
The grand jury heard testimony from 14 witnesses.
