Federal authorities say a southern South Dakota man accused of sexually abusing a minor has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
The U.S. Attorney in Sioux Falls on Thursday announced the sentence of 20-year-old Richard Peneaux. The Mission man was also ordered to five years of probation following his release from prison.
The charge stems from an August incident. Authorities say Peneaux and the victim were dating at the time. They say Peneaux knew the victim was younger than 16 years old when they had sex.
A federal grand jury indicted Peneaux in September. He pleaded guilty in December to one count of sexual abuse of a minor.
