Investigators are trying to determine the identify of a man whose body was found in a garage that burned late Sunday night near the intersection of E. St. Patrick Street and E. St. Joseph Street in southeast Rapid City.
The cause of the fire is also under investigation.
Lt. Brent Long of the Rapid City Fire Department officials said Monday morning that the owners of the garage didn’t know the man and were not aware that anyone was in or using the building. He said the man was dead at the scene.
The building is located along a side street and near a railroad track. Long said the building did not have electricity or other utilities, so the fire is presumed to have been caused by an external source.
A passing sheriff’s deputy saw the blaze and reported it to the fire department at about 11:15 Sunday night.
