One day after allegedly assaulting his family and several Sioux Falls Police officers, Rocky Traversie now knows how much time he may be spending in prison.
The 31-year-old is charged with 20 crimes ranging from kidnapping, domestic abuse with a weapon and assaulting a law enforcement officer. He is also facing charges of possession and distribution of a controlled substance after police say they found cocaine on him. The most severe of these charges is first-degree kidnapping, and if he's found guilty, he could be sentenced to life in prison.
Sioux Falls Police received a call Wednesday morning about Traversie holding his family hostage in their home using a brick. A teenage boy trapped in the home escaped through a window and called police from a neighbor's phone. Traversie allegedly hit his mother and sister with the brick and injured three officers when they tried to arrest him. The officers were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Traversie is currently being held on $500,000 cash bond.
Traversie is no stranger to police. He has a 16-page criminal record that dates back to 1995, including four assault arrests last month.
