The 20-year-old Sioux Falls man arrested for vehicular homicide early New Year's morning is being held on a $500,000 bond after he appeared in court Thursday afternoon.
Oscar Madrigal is also facing his second DWI after he failed to stop at a stop light around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday and hit a minivan at the intersection of 10th Street and Sycamore Avenue.
The passenger in the van, 38-year-old Tanya Sanchez, died in the crash.
Police say right now they are talking to witnesses as the investigation continues.
"We had on, yes, we had a pretty good witness at that time and the evidence speaks loudly at a collision like this especially at a traffic controlled intersection but to have a witness who stayed on scene,” Lt. Jerome Miller with the Sioux Falls Police Department said.
Madrigal's last DWI was in December 2011. He's also pleaded guilty to driving without a license four different times, as well as failing to stop at a stop sign.
