HILL CITY, SD -
Law enforcement killed a bison over the weekend after it chased a motorist near Hill City and occupied officers for several hours.
Pennington County Sheriff's Sgt. Greg Foster says the animal apparently had escaped from captivity weeks before but hadn't caused any problems until Saturday.
The effort to capture the bison involved officials with the sheriff's office; Highway Patrol; state Game, Fish and Parks Department; and the animal's owner. When that effort failed the bison was killed Saturday night.
