We are nearing the end of August and temperatures are finally on the rise.
August has been a roller coast of temperatures with highs in some parts of the viewing area closing in on the triple-digit mark and other times, not even breaking out of the 60s. And as far as rainfall, it seemed to be an all or nothing month. But overall, August was a cooler and above average for rainfall totals.
Looking back, highs were two to four degrees below the climate average. The Sioux Falls and surrounding area was the warmest with highs only two degrees below average while the rest of the state averaged four degrees below normal.
As far as rain, August rainfall was three inches above average for rainfall. And some areas in northern and south-central KELOLAND received four to eight inches above average for the month of August.
And as we go into the weekend, Saturday looks to be clear with highs in the 80s but Sunday brings cooler temperatures along with showers and storms.
