Long Lines Frustrate Some Voters

April 10, 2012, 7:40 PM by Kelly Bartnick

Long Lines Frustrate Some Voters
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Eliminating neighborhood Sioux Falls polling places for larger voting centers this election isn't a hit with everyone.

That's because of long lines, including one that stretched throughout the Lincoln High School lobby Tuesday evening. People say they stood for up to 20 minutes before casting ballots, especially as closing time neared. And even with relatively short ballots, the city may not have planned for the crowds.

"What the public officials don't consider is our time may be more important than this election, just standing in line. Democracy shouldn't be this way," voter Mark Weber said.

The lines varied at the city's 12 voting centers depending upon the time of day.  Election workers did have to move ballots from vote centers that were not as busy to the more popular locations.
