LifeLight: 300,000 People Attended Event

September 2, 2012, 10:00 PM by Hailey Higgins

LifeLight: 300,000 People Attended Event
WORTHING, SD -

LifeLight organizers say this year's attendance meets or exceeds previous records. More than 300,000 people traveled to Worthing for the three-day Christian music festival.

Among those enjoying the music is Susan Johnson of Worthington, Minnesota.

"We love the bands," Johnson said. "Our kids grew up with Christian music and that's a great way to praise God."

Johnson is one of an estimated 300,000 people who came out to the multi-stage event. Festival Director Julie Klinger says the numbers this year will reach near record levels.

"I think it is one of our better years we've ever had. I think we've probably come close in past years but it seems like we've sort of come to this point of a certain number of people every year. I'm comfortable with that. I like that we are at 300,000 people every year and that's okay," Klinger said.

And while there is not an official count yet, Klinger says estimations are made from traffic patterns and personal space predictions from event engineers.

She says the band Skillet brought nearly 100,000 people to just one stage Saturday night.

"Definitely the biggest standing crowd," Klinger said. "[There was] a sea of people all over the place and they were actually standing in the back which was very impressive to me when the back of the crowd stands."

And Johnson says those large crowds are expected at LifeLight.

"I'm not surprised. I think this community really supports it and the surrounding communities," Johnson said.
