The Lewis and Clark Regional Water project is getting more than $8 million this year.
The money comes from an amendment Congresswoman Kristi Noem included in the House Energy and Water Appropriation bill.
It tacked on another $5 million on top of the $3 million that was already approved.
The extra money will help build another five miles of the pipeline.
"Honestly the dollars don't go very far but every mile we can get completed makes sure we're that much closer to getting people the clean drinking water they need to not only sustain their homes and businesses but to continue to promote economic development in those areas," Noem said.
The Lewis and Clark Water project is already delivering water to Sioux Falls and ten other towns.
Communities in Minnesota and Iowa are still waiting for their connection.
