Lawmakers Look At Higher Education Budget

Lawmakers Look At Higher Education Budget
PIERRE, SD - Officials from South Dakota's public universities are meeting with state lawmakers to discuss the schools' spending plans.

The Board of Regents, which oversees the six state universities, will present its budget recommendations Tuesday to the Legislature's Joint Appropriations Committee.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard's budget proposal would spend a total of nearly $800 million next year on higher education. About $167 million of that would come from state general tax funds, with the rest coming from federal and other sources.

Members of the Board of Regents have said pay raises for faculty members should be the top priority in next year's budget for the state universities.
