Lawmakers Discuss School Sentinel Bill At Coffee
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

During the 88th legislative session, the school sentinel bill, a legislative bill that could allow guns in schools, has taken center stage.

This bill could allow each school district to decide if an employee could be armed while at school.

Many are now asking if this hot button bill has taken over and is overshadowing critical district funding from being discussed in Pierre.

“I don't know that it will overshadow the discussion on district funding, but it has become more than it needed to be, I think," Rep. Paula Hawks said.

"The sentinel bill  at this point has no funding tied to it has a totally separate, and we're having a lot of discussions on school funding and the only issue there is how do we get the money," Rep. Jim Stalzer said.

The school sentinel bill has passed in the House and is now being discussed in the Senate.
