Law Officers Participate In Softball Tournament

August 18, 2012, 6:03 PM by Hailey Higgins

Law Officers Participate In Softball Tournament
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Law enforcement officers from across South Dakota are putting down their badges and picking up softball gloves during the second annual Battle of the Badges tournament on Saturday.

Eight teams consisting of more than 200 full-time police officers, corrections officers, troopers, deputy sheriffs, federal agents and parole officers participated at the event at Harmodon Park.

The event remembers those who've recently fallen in the line of duty. In fact, the fields were named in honor of four South Dakota officers who died in 2011.

“It's just a weekend for us to get together, play some softball and remember those who we've lost over the last several years,” Josh Phillips with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s office said.

Families of the victims also attended the tournament.
