Lambo's Clerk, Owner React To Robbery Arrest

November 16, 2011, 7:32 AM by Kellee Azar

Lambo's Clerk, Owner React To Robbery Arrest
SIOUX FALLS, SD - With one arrest, police say they've solved as many as five conveneince store robberies in Sioux Falls.

They caught up with 60-year-old David Mentzer of Sioux Falls after a recent robbery attempt at a Kum & Go convenience store.

Court papers say the store's clerk was able to write down his license plate number and is what led police right to him.

Officails say that's when Mentzer admitted to robbing not only two different Kum and Go's but also Lambo's BP.

Lambo's BP on West 49th Street was robbed October 13 and the suspect got away with $1,250. Five days later, the store was robbed again; this time of $250.

Less than a month later, a Kum & Go convenience store on East 26th Street was robbed of $706.

Then on November 9, the Kum & Go on Western Ave was robbed of $349.  The suspect returned to that store November 14 but didn't leave with any money.

Kimber Frerichs was working when Lambo's was robbed the first time. Now that there's a suspect behind bars she's feeling relief.

"It makes me feel relieved now coming back to work just I don't know just relieved," Store Clerk Kimber Frerichs said.

The owner of Lambo's BP feels like this should be a lesson learned as well.

"I hope for him and anyone else who does that they get locked up and learn that's not the way to make money. There are all kinds of people out there that need money for all kinds of different things.  The people who work here need money and that's why they work here.  There are good jobs available and things they can do.  You don't need to be robbing people," store owner Ron Lamberty said.

Mentzer is charged with three counts of robbery and one count of grand theft in Minnehaha County.  Investigators also sent their reports to the Lincoln County State's Attorney, who would file charges in the Lambo's robberies.
