Lady Jackrabbit Fans Anxiously Await Selection

March 12, 2012, 6:30 AM by Jon Berg

Lady Jackrabbit Fans Anxiously Await Selection
BROOKINGS, SD -

After winning their fourth straight Summit League Tournament last week, the SDSU women's team is once again headed to the NCAA Tournament and students alike are excited to have South Dakota once again be part of the national tournament.

"Transferring from a D-2 program to a D-1 program seven or eight years ago and then being able to win the Summit League Tournament four years in a row that means a lot to everyone here in South Dakota," SDSU sophomore Spencer Hanson said.

And some fans who aren't even students or alumni, are cheering on the lady jackrabbits as they prepare for the national tournament.

"It's pretty exciting. I'm a season ticket holder so, I come to a lot of games and it's fun to see, 'cause we have a lot of local players.  So, it's fun to follow them," SDSU fan John Stoffel said.

And fans hope Monday night's selection show won't send the women's basketball team too far away, so they can get a big crowd to cheer them on.

"Hopefully, sometime here, we'll get one that's a little closer to home and we don't have to play the home team every time and give ourselves a better chance to advance," Boline said.

"Hopefully it's a game close to home so some fans can get there and support the Jacks," Stoffel said.

But, no matter where the Jackrabbits travel to for their first match up, they're guaranteed to have fans cheering them on at home.

Monday night's selection show will air at 6:00 p.m. CDT on ESPN.  We'll have fan reaction along with all the details on who and when the women will play on KELOLAND News and KELOLAND.com.
