Overnight Wednesday into Thursday, the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls issued five severe thunderstorm warnings stretching from near Vermillion South Dakota, up to Dell Rapids, South Dakota and east to around Pipestone, Minnesota. These warnings were issued due to radar indicated hail up to half dollar sized hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph.
Some of you sent in some hail stone pictures and these are impressive. We received several from Dell Rapids and as you can see, these stones were around golf ball easily over the one inch needed to issue a severe weather warning. We also received this picture of roughly one inch hail from Pipestone. There was also a report of a 61 mph wind gust in Brandon.
Looking ahead at the forecast, cooler weather moving into KELOLAND will reduce chances for severe weather into the weekend.
