KELOLAND Launches HD News, Unveils Changes

October 19, 2011, 5:00 PM by Shawn Neisteadt

KELOLAND Launches HD News, Unveils Changes
SIOUX FALLS, SD - Months of hard work is paying off at KELOLAND News as we offer the first fully HD newscast in the area. From what's behind the scenes to what's in our studio, it's all new and it's all being broadcast in 1080i.

While our HD broadcast changes how you see the news each day, an area you won't usually see plays a big part in that. Our new media center is outfitted with brand new equipment. The media center is where the director chooses which camera you see and where what you hear is controlled. Think of it as the brains behind the show.

If that's the brains, consider our new studio the beauty. Our all new set gives a fresh look to a decades old tradition. Look behind the anchors as they deliver the daily news, and you'll see scenes true to our strong roots, ranging from the Falls of the Big Sioux, to the famous faces of the Black Hills.

In between, a giant projection screen is sure to catch your eye. The easy-to-change 110" background is a huge change from what used to sit behind our news desk. The desk itself is new as well.

We've also added a second desk, where anchors and reporters will better illustrate the information that's important to you. And when we bring you a story from the field, it too will be in HD.

The KELOLAND Live Doppler HD Storm Center features large HD monitors, an easy-to-use desk and multiple work stations. Our team of meteorologists has a sleeker home to bring you your forecast and severe weather information.

The studio cameras are also new. There are no hand controls.  Instead, computers set up each shot.

The overall number of changes here at KELOLAND TV are too numerous to list. One thing that hasn't changed is our focus on accurate and timely reporting.

Check out the progress on our HD Conversion page.
