KELO Abortion Ban Survey Questions

A new abortion ban with exceptions that cleared a committee yesterday is intended to go straight to the voters if passed by the full legislature.
But Governor Mike Rounds says there may be constitutional questions over sending an abortion bill straight to the 2008 ballot.
While those issues have yet to be sorted out, KELOLAND has e-mailed 4,000 viewers a poll on the new abortion ban.
The KELOLAND News abortion survey asks seven questions regarding the abortion issue in South Dakota.
The first asks the respondent whether they voted last November.
The next question goes further, asking if the person voted against the abortion ban, would the addition of exceptions be enough to change their vote?
Then we go on to ask which exceptions the reader supports. They include rape, which must be reported within 50 days according to bill 12-93; incest, which must also be reported to police according to the new proposed ban; and health of the mother, which would require a second doctor's opinion.
All three exceptions and the requirements attached to them are included in the most recent bill being debated in Pierre right now.
But is this too early for lawmakers to consider another ban? That's the next question we wanted to know in the survey. And finally, we ask whether those responding are in favor of voting on another statewide abortion ban.
Again, we sent the survey to 4,000 people in South Dakota. We will bring you the results of this poll tomorrow on KELOLAND News.
