A three vehicle crash on Interstate 90, near Summerset, results in the death of a Kansas woman on Saturday.
Janelle Cora Forrest, 54, of Topeka, KS, was heading eastbound in a 1996 Dodge Ram when her vehicle left the interstate and crossed the median into the westbound lanes. The Ram was hit by a 2006 Ford F150 driven by Darrol Les Birk, 59, of Rapid City who was heading westbound.
Birk’s truck was hit from behind by a 1992 Ford F150 driven by Joseph Hedricks, 60, of Scottsdale, AZ. The first two vehicles were sent into the north ditch, while Hedrick’s vehicle came to a rest on the right shoulder of the road.
Forrest died as a result of the crash while Birk received serious injuries. Hedricks was unharmed.
Everyone involved was wearing their seatbelts.
No further information is available.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
