July Was A Cooler Than Average Month

July 31, 2014, 6:27 PM by Grant Smith

July Was A Cooler Than Average Month

Even though KELOLAND saw a few days of 90s and even triple digits in some areas, overall, July was cooler than average. And on top of cooler weather, it was a drier month overall, especially in the east.

July 20 and 21 were the two hottest days in KELOLAND. The hottest recorded temperature in the state was 108 degrees in Winner. Pierre reached 104 on the 21 while the western and eastern sides of the state reached the low to mid 90s as their hottest days.

But when you take the entire month into consideration, average highs range from around 80 to 85 degrees. Which is about three to four degrees cooler than the climate average for the month of July.

Along with the cooler weather, it has been drier. Western KELOLAND was the only area to have reports totaling over one inch. Central and eastern KELOLAND received a total of around three quarters of an inch of rain during July.

The forecast for the next week does have a slight warming trend where some areas of KELOLAND will be in the upper 80s to low 90s but middle to end of next week, we'll cool right back down.
