Judge Won't Lower Bond In SD Kidnapping Case

Judge Won't Lower Bond In SD Kidnapping Case
Joshua Peacock

RAPID CITY, SD -

A judge has refused to reduce bond for a Rapid City man accused in an alleged kidnapping last November.

Bond earlier was set at $35,000 for Joshua Peacock on kidnapping and burglary charges. The 28-year-old was the subject of a citywide search after he allegedly kidnapped a woman when she found him burglarizing her home. He allegedly forced the woman to drive him to a Wal-Mart to get cash but fled when she went into the store.

Defense attorney John Murphy on Tuesday asked Judge Robert Gusinsky to consider a personal recognizance bond for Peacock so he could get mental health counseling and medication at a hospital rather than in jail. Prosecutor Mark Vargo objected, citing the nature of the charges and the uncertainty surrounding Peacock's mental health.
