Judge Rules For Candidate In Lt. Governor Lawsuit

August 18, 2014, 3:49 PM by Ben Dunsmoor

Judge Rules For Candidate In Lt. Governor Lawsuit
Mike Myers and Lora Hubbel

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

A federal judge has ruled that Lora Hubbel can be Mike Myers running mate this fall as he runs as an independent candidate for South Dakota governor.

Last month, Myers wanted to name Hubbel as his pick for Lieutenant Governor after his previous running mate withdrew her name.  But the South Dakota Secretary of State said that state law does not have a procedure for replacing independent Lieutenant Governor candidates.

Myers filed a federal lawsuit and Monday afternoon, a federal judge ruled in favor of Myers, saying independent candidates need to have the same opportunities as other candidates.
