Joseph Patterson Arrested For Kidnapping
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The man accused in the death of a Sioux Falls toddler last year faces new charges.  

Sioux Falls Police responded to a well-being call early Wednesday morning at the 4500 block of East 42nd St. in Sioux Falls. Joseph Patterson was arrested and charged with first-degree kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault, interference with emergency communciation and third-degree injury to property.

Patterson was free on $750,000 bond while awaiting a trial on previous murder charges.

Kidnapping in the first-degree is a Class C felony and punishable by up to life in prison and/or a $50,000 fine. Aggravated assault is a Class 3 Felony and is punishable by 15 years in prison and/or a $30,000 fine. The remaining charges are misdemeanors.

Two-year-old Tyrese Ruffin died from injuries he received from allegedly being abused by Patterson in October 2013. Ruffin was the biological son of Minnesota Vikings player Adrian Peterson.
