Johnson Trying To Put VA Hospital Closure On Hold

Johnson Trying To Put VA Hospital Closure On Hold
RAPID CITY, SD -

U.S. Sen. Tim Johnson says he is trying to put on hold the proposed closure of the Veterans Affairs facilities in Hot Springs.

Johnson says he has added language to a VA funding bill that would pause the proposed realignment of the facilities in western South Dakota's Black Hills.

The VA has served veterans in Hot Springs for more than a century but now wants to move some services to Rapid City. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has already chosen a Nebraska company to study its plan to reconfigure its health care system.

Johnson says the language added to the bill prohibits the use of money from the fiscal year that starts in October to close VA hospitals and conduct environmental assessments.
