Jenkins Admits His Guilt

Jenkins Admits His Guilt
Seventeen years ago, at the height of the farm crisis, KELO-LAND was tossed into the national spotlight by an unthinkable crime. Two bankers from Ruthton, Minnesota were gunned down in cold blood. The killers? A farmer who had filed bankruptcy and his 18-year-old son. What "really" happened that day remains a mystery to the people of Ruthton. After carrying his secret for nearly two decades, Steven Jenkins is finally ready to break his silence. The shootings killed bankers Rudy Blythe and Toby Thulin. It was a plot planned by James Jenkins who blamed his financial troubles on the bank. "The intention was he wanted to kill him, and he didn't want to stop there. I mean, there were many other poeple that he felt had , you know, wronged him in the past and he wanted revenge" said Steve Jenkins. "He didn't want to pull the trigger. He told me to do it, and I had even asked him. I said what if he's not alone? He said that it didn't matter and that whoever was with him was just as bad or just as guilty. After the killings, the Jenkins fled to Texas where James committed suicide. Steven turned himself in. The case brought national attention to the small town of Ruthton. Jenkins' defense was that his father was the trigger man. But after a lenghthy an emotional trial, Steven Jenkins was found guilty on two counts of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Families were relieved, despite his conviction Jenkins, who's the only one who knows what really happened that day, insisted he was innocent. But after 17 years behind bars, Jenkins is now revealing his secret. "I did, I was the one that shot both of them. I mean, you know I'd like to have a normal life, but I mean this will never be it will never be gone, You know, I mean, excuse me. I mean I can't change the fact that I killed two people and no matter what I do, I can't make that right." After Jenkins' conviction. He was adopted by his defense lawyer and now goes by Steven Anderson. He's up for parole next year.
