A 9-year-old boy in northwest Iowa has been accused of severely injuring a Chihuahua dog.
Storm Lake police say the incident happened Saturday night. The boy is accused of picking up the dog and slamming it into the ground.
Police say the dog was taken to a veterinary clinic. The dog is paralyzed with a broken neck.
The boy faces a misdemeanor charge of animal abuse and was released to his mother.
Police say they have filed a report with the state Department of Human Services.
